Who Did Power Rangers Better?

Since numerous people have been doing this kind of thing (ProtoDubs, Masked Rider Blue, Toku Princess) I decided to throw my hat into the ring and do my own blog post about it. Here, we're going to see Who Did Power Rangers Better?

Now of course, I'm going to rate each season by using a scale: -1, if it's terrible, 0, if it's bad, 1, if it's OK, 2, if it's good, and 3, if it's amazing. So, let's party like it's it 1985 and rank these seasons! Go!

The Saban Era

Let's start with the first era in Power Rangers, which is also divided into two sub-eras, the Zordon Era, and the Post-Zordon Era.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Season 1)

This is were it all started, ladies and gentleman. The genesis of the franchise. To be honest, this season is not as great as many people point it out to be. Most of the scenes in this season are very cheesy and dated, but it was the 90s, and this was the first season. Nobody knew how to make a good season yet and they we're trying to make a story out of the footage they were given. Thank God it became a huge success. 1 point.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Season 2)

In Season 2, this is were the story started to feel more intense. We got a new villain, Lord Zedd, Tommy went from green to white, we got new Zords, and we got three new Rangers. I felt that the season started in a really strong way with The Mutiny Pt. 1-3, and the send-off for the Green Ranger powers was really good, but when Tommy became the White Ranger, everything was just too perfect for him. The cast change, in my opinion, didn't harm the season. Jason, Trini, and Zack's sendoff wasn't anything good, because their actors already left the show, most of the footage we see them in is just reused footage (Tell me how Zack was able to grow his old hairstyle back), and new footage, we would only just see the back of these stand-ins, never there faces. And don't get me started on the terrible voice acting for them. Rocky, Adam, and Aisha, were pretty OK on their start, with easily Adam being most interesting one of the three. 1 point.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Season 3)

Season 3, on the other hand, is the best out of the MMPR trilogy. The story continues to grow and so do our characters, Bulk & Skull for example. Though, the season didn't start out strong with the 3-part crossover with someone who shall not be named, Ninja Quest should have been the premiere, where we were introduced to Rito, the Ninja Powers, Ninjor, and the Ninja Zords. We also got a great sendoff for Kimberly, which I think was handled better than both of the sendoffs from last season. Kat was a pretty good replacement and fit perfectly with the team. 2 points.

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers

One thing I don't understand that most people do when doing this is why do they talk about the Alien Ranger mini-series as it's own season. Technically, it's apart of Season 3, but then again, I'm destined to talk about it. Unlike others, I think this mini-series, is pretty OK. I know there are a lot of flaws with this, like the terrible child actors, or the Alien Rangers, who barely have a character to them. But I liked how it gave closure to Mighty Morphin and started building up to Zeo, with the Zeo Quest. And the cliffhanger that happens at the end just leaves you speechless. 1 point

Power Rangers Zeo

Then we get to Zeo itself. Just like it says in the theme song, this series was stronger than before, literally. The writing, the characters, the villains, etc. This was showing that Saban was moving on from Mighty Morphin (like what they should do nowadays) and wanted to expand the franchise. Many intriguing things happened here, and the Gold Ranger arc was the cream of the crop on that aspect. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but I will say that your in for a treat. 2 points.

Power Rangers Turbo

But after Zeo, we get Turbo. Many fans, including myself, aren't very pleasant when this season comes to mind. The transition between Zeo and Turbo is very weak where we don't have a reason for them to switch. The movie that served as a kickstarter for this season, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, was originally going to be 3 hours long and we would've gotten an explanation for the Zeo powers being absent, but sadly that never got to see the light of day. I hope that you don't hate me for this or stop going to my blog.............I thought that the villains were pretty funny. I know that there plans sucked and are the least bit threatening, but they were still a joy to watch. Other reasons why people hate this season, is because of our new Blue Ranger, Justin, who is a kid. IMO, he was a pretty good character.  The cast change, however, I thought was poorly executed. The sendoff for the original members should have been about wrapping up their character arcs, but we don't get much of that. For the new cast, there pretty good, and I liked how they introduced. Another good thing about this season was the finale we were given, and it was executed gloriously, but regardless of it's pros, it's a heavily-flawed season. 0 points.

Power Rangers In Space

Though Turbo was lackluster, it had one of the best finales of all time, which led into the next season, which was the Swan Song of the Zordon Era. Man, did it fulfill to it's potential. The writing started to feel more mature and we got lots of world building. The Psycho Ranger saga is indeed one of the greatest and right up there with the Gold Ranger arc. And when Zordon died, it was executed in such a majestic way. It was going to be the last season, but the finale's ratings did so well, of course they continued. 3 points.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

Lost Galaxy is a lot of things. It's the spiritual sequel to In Space and is the first of the Post-Zordon Era. Lost Galaxy did more world building, but had a great theme on journey and sacrifice. It was very epic and entertaining. And of course, I have to talk about the episode where Kendrix sacrificed herself, but would eventually transfer her powers to Karone, who's arc would explored beautifully. 3 points.

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

Power Rangers strikes again with their awesome seasons with this one. Lightspeed Rescue was freakin' epic and the arc the Titanium Ranger was a crowd-pleaser as well. I felt it showed what risks a Power Ranger takes by having go through many obstacles that were shown to be very dangerous. 3 points.

Power Rangers Time Force

I don't care if I'm biased or not, but this IS MY FAVORITE SEASON OF ALL TIME!!! It had great character dynamics, a good romance between Wes and Jen, the Quantum Ranger, Ransik, it had everything you would want in a Power Rangers season! Easy 3 points.

The Disney Era

In 2001, Disney bought the franchise from Saban, with Wild Force being a transition season. This would eventually be the era that yours truly would grow up in.

Power Rangers Wild Force

To be honest, I had a hard time where to put this season. Is it a Saban or Disney season? It was a huge struggle, I originally was going to put this in the Saban season, put I would eventually place it here because shut up, it's my blog and I can do whatever the hell I want. This season was pretty enjoyable for me. And when you actually think about it, this is the first team of Power Rangers to not have any arsenal or Zords related to technology. It's all ancient and animal-themed. And more kudos to this season for having two team-ups, which were both awesome. The team-up with Time Force and Forever Red, with hands down is easily the best PR anniversary we were given. 2 points.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

Now this is the official first season of the Disney Era. This is where Power Rangers completely changed. The music, the scenery, everything. And to be honest, that's not bad. I liked Ninja Storm. It felt laid back, it executed the ninja aspect very well, the extreme sports portion doesn't feel too forced, and the villains were not threatening, yet were still funny. 2 points.

Power Rangers Dino Thunder

Now this was a Power Rangers season that was an anniversary season, where it technically wasn't. The MMPR callbacks were decent, yet still had it's own identity. The villains were very fleshed out and instead of making them aliens, they were revolved around science. And I feel like this was when Tommy's character began to shine, and of course, the 500th episode of Power Rangers, the one episode that actually introduced me to the teams preceding this one and showed me how Power Rangers was not your average kids' show, but a franchise that was pretty much a legacy. 3 points.

Power Rangers S.P.D.

This was the first season that I ever saw, folks. If your interested how I came across this season, link here. S.P.D. is one of the very unique seasons of Power Rangers, because we get more world building, more alien Rangers. This series was also the first to have a futuristic setting. I know Time Force technically did this first, but that's were the premise started. The majority of Time Force was in the year of 2001. S.P.D. entirely takes place in the future. And what I do like is how the B-Squad acts. Most times they argue and at the end, they had to prove themselves to rise to greatness and best the A-Squad. 3 points.

Power Rangers Mystic Force

I know that a lot of people hate this season, but personally, I don't think it's that bad. The first 20 episodes were pretty decent, and that Dark Wish 3-parter blew the roof off. After that, the remaining 12 episodes just pretty much focuses too much on Nick. 1 point.

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive

We all know the story for this one. I felt like it was a complete reversal with Mystic Force. The first 12 episodes were decent, but the ongoing 20 were lackluster. I did like the adventure theme and the Once-A-Ranger team-up was OK in my opinion. 0 points.

Power Rangers Jungle Fury

Now after the negative reception that Overdrive got, Jungle Fury was a huge step-up from that. We actually got well choreographed fight scenes in this season, and I like how this leans more towards the martial arts aspect than the animal motif. Both the villains and heroes have very interesting and are executed in a strong way by having our heroes go through a journey and become full-fledged masters, and by having Jarrod redeem himself at the end of the series. 3 points.

Power Rangers RPM

Being the last of the Disney Era, this was also going to be the last season in general. So the writers went all out with this one by having this season be set in an apocalyptic universe. This is pretty much the darkest season of all time and this season explored many aspects that Power Rangers has never explored before. 3 points.

The Neo-Saban Era

After Disney pulled the plug on Power Rangers in 2010, Saban Brands bought the franchise back and started making new seasons. Everyone was jumping for joy because the legacy will still continue.....but eventually, were disappointed on how it continued.

Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai

This was the first of the Neo-Saban Era and disappointed numerous fans mainly because it was a direct copy of it's counterpart, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. If you don't believe me, just watch Shinkenger and Samurai back-to-back and see what I mean. It's pretty typical why this would be a direct copy because the main writer was nothing more than a translator, and they credited the writer of the Sentai counterpart in their credits. And it's also despicable on how this series "Americanizes" Shinkenger, which the latter was heavily based off of Japanese culture. But I will give it this, at least I felt like Samurai had some scenes where it took itself seriously, unlike the seasons that preceded it. 0 points.

Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce

*sighs* We all know the story for this. Underdeveloped characters, terrible mentor, the new powers, the Legendary Battle, etc. -1 point.

Power Rangers Dino Charge/Dino Supercharge

After Megaforce, Dino Charge was actually a huge step-up. The characters started to feel more diverse and 3-dimensional, the comedy was good for the most part, and I liked the story around the Energems. Sadly, the second season, Dino Supercharge, immediately decreased in quality, with the comedy now being more cringier, Tyler's Dad, etc., but Heckyl was easily the best character and it was great to have a good PR villain since RPM. 2 points.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel

But sadly, after Dino Charge, Ninja Steel felt like the franchise went 2 steps back down. I know that this series isn't finished yet, but what does that matter when it feels like it won't change from it's current rate. Ninja Steel just tries to hard to be Mighty Morphin, like with the morals, Victor and Monty, the Theme Song, the comedy, etc. It even gets to the point where I'm starting to hate this more than I do with Megaforce. The Rangers just feel so wooden and have a lack of personality that I can't stand them, and the villains just feel so cringing to both look and listen too. but kudos for bringing back Kelson Henderson. -1 point.

Final Analyzation

Saban Era - 19 points
Disney Era - 17 points
Neo-Saban Era - 0 points

Winner: Saban

I know that my answer is a lot different than ones that are listed above, but I still highly respect Disney. Now for Saban, I easily think that their earlier years were where they shined, but after getting their show back from Disney, they just lost the magic. One of the many reasons of what we've been getting with the Neo-Saban Era can easily fall to Nickelodeon, but other than that, Saban is trying too hard to recapture the days of Mighty Morphin, but what they don't realize is that kid shows have evolved nowadays, like Avatar, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, TMNT 2012, the list goes on. So......how will Beast Morphers turn out?

Will Beast Morphers be an evolution for the franchise now that Hasbro has the ball in their court? They have made some quality shows, like Transformers: Prime and MLP: Friendship is Magic (Well from what I have heard). Or will Beast Morphers stay the same and continue throwing the toxic crap we've been getting for the past decade? Or even worse? We'll just have to wait and see until next year, but this wait pretty much sums up what Billy said in Episode 27 of Zeo:

        "That's the one thing about the Power Rangers. You never know what's gonna happen next"

And he's right. Maybe we'll get some surprises at San Diego Comic Con or Power Morphicon. Next time, we're getting another Gravure Idol of the Week. In the words of a giant floating head, May the Power Protect You. Later.
